As a Social Value consultancy working within the construction sector, we are passionate about promoting construction careers to young people, showcasing the wide range of opportunities available and increasing the diversity within the sector. We have been working with the charity Movement to Work (MtW) who help employers deliver high-quality employability opportunities for young people aged 16-30 facing barriers to work. Their mission is to help young people gain access to great work experiences and expose organisations to fresh, untapped talent.

Joining MtW in 2023, we find their events inspire us to introduce new programmes and challenge the status quo of construction recruitment practices.

Movement to Work have introduced Strive Development to a number of referral partners, such as Youth Build, who we have built relationships with and are now working collaboratively with. As a result, we have held construction information sessions and hosted 23 young people for a site tour followed by a Q&A session through these introductions.

We have also introduced Movement to Work to other construction companies and referral partners which has potentially benefitted them and the people these organisations work with.

Being a member of MtW enables us to hear of good practice in other sectors and consider how we can be innovative and improve our processes

Work Experience

We have implemented an innovative work experience programme where we work with groups of 10 students from local colleges/schools.  The programme is offered partly on site and partly in school/ college environment as online access is required and includes them undertaking a Belbin Team Role questionnaire. The programme increases their self-awareness, teamworking, knowledge of progression routes and presentation skills. Last year, 7 people attended the programme with 2 progressing into apprenticeships as a result. In March 24, 10 students attended and 2 have already secured an interview.

Movement To Work Employability Awards

In April, we attended their Conference and Employability Awards and were honoured and privileged to win the Best Newcomer Employer Award 2024. As a small business it is great to have our achievements in working with young people recognised.

We feel very proud of our relationship with Movement to Work and could not believe it when we won the award. We look forward to continuing our work with Movement To Work and helping young people obtain work experience, jobs and apprenticeships.

Thank you to Movement to Work and the support they give us.
